The Race

Saad, Rafe, Edsel, and Nagel wanted to take part in a race. They came to the finishing line, but there was no judge. When the judge finally showed up to give the prize to the winner, the racers explained the situation:

Saad: I was neither first nor last.

Rafe: I did not finish last.

Edsel: I won the race!

Nagel: I came in last.

As soon as the judge stretched his hand to give the prize to Edsel, Valerie, who was watching the race, said, "One of them is lying."

So who should get the prize?
